JOB DESCRIPTION:

Purpose

Operates and maintains transportation owned by the facility for the transportation of patients to and from clinics, hospitals or other appointments.

 

Equipment, Methods & Guidelines

Drives transportation vehicles for the safe and timely arrival of patients to and from appointments outside of the facility. Performs routine vehicle maintenance, and reports non-routine problems as detected. Works flexible hours as appropriate to appointment requirements.

 

Working Conditions

Typical exposure to vehicle fumes, biohazards and varying climate temperatures.

 

Physical Demands

Moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, pushing and pulling; prolonged periods of grasping, arm extension and sitting; ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires specific vision abilities.

 

Supervisory Guidance Received/Given

Position reports to the Activities Director and is accountable to the Director of Nursing during all transportation assignments. Supervision received consists of oral and written instruction.

Examples of Duties

1.  Transports patients from facility to van; and to and from van to clinics, hospitals or appointments.

2.  Ensures patients safe and timely arrival for medical care appointments; including securing resident safely in van and strictly following all security measures.

3.  Performs routine vehicle maintenance, such as checking oil, water, and tires; reports any non-routine problems or malfunctioning equipment to management.

4.  Follows specified instructions, procedures, and standards for the efficient and safe operation of the vehicle, and for the care and safety of patients during transport.

5.  Conforms to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial van for passenger use.

6.  Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

7.  Practices safety and infection control methods.

8.  Must be able to work flexible hours, some weekends included

Available to work varying shifts; including overtime and weekends; as mandated by patient needs.

 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a valid State of Tennessee driving license and good driving record; CDL Class “F”or higher required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

CDL Class F or higher required and a clean MVR report
