Director Controller, Post-Acute Care Operations at Brentwood

Job Description

Job Summary:This position was previously posted as Director, Finance - Post Acute Services. Job Description & requirements have not changed.Manage the Homecare, Hospice, SNF Financial Operations through the provision of support to agencies and operations in planning, overseeing, and evaluating the achievement of identified financial and operational goals.General Responsibilities/Functions:
  • Direct team members with goals of improving financial outcomes, operational processes, and responding to exceptions in performance metrics
  • Ensure effective and ongoing, on-the-job training of team members, evaluate and record individual and team performance, provide coaching and counseling, and make appropriate developmental and salary adjustment recommendations
  • Ensure and facilitate consistency in practice and revenue cycle oversight
  • Develop and prepare reports to inform Groups, facilities, and agencies team initiatives, monthly financial status, project status, issues, results, achievements, etc.
  • Develop, educate, and implement processes to maximize financial outcomes of agencies
  • Perform monthly and as needed operational/financial reviews with agency/facility personnel to evaluate and improve efficiencies and effectiveness of operational activities.
  • Report outliers that impact operations and provide guidance in methods of improvements to Groups, facilities and agencies.
  • Evaluate and work with facilities and the HSC staff in the development of payor agreements and contracts
  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing processes of IT management within the sites and monthly reporting of financials to the facilities
  • Oversee and manage the regional billing support services. Will be responsible for the staffing, efficiency and effectiveness of the billing centers including AR, expenses, bad debt, staffing costs, allocations etc.
  • Responsible for the implementation, integration and functionality of the Care AnyWare and McKesson IT system, and SNF software within all locations. Will work with Care AnyWare and McKesson staff to ensure the effectiveness of the system and to develop and implement processes for clinical and operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee all billing and AR management of home health, SNF and hospice services to implement and maintain effectiveness and efficiencies in cash flow, decrease and manage bad debt expense, as well as trending issues that negatively impact agency financials
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for each site and submit to each locations post monthly close
  • Have proactive communication with Groups, facilities and agency directors
  • Assist as requested in the preparation and implementation of annual budgets based on historical data that are reasonable and attainable to each location
  • Assists in mentoring/training new directors on financial processes of agency operations
  • Establishes realistic, innovative objectives for the department and participates as a management team member in meeting objectives.
  • Prepares for bi-weekly department meetings/calls and presents items of interest and educational material to staff. Holds meetings regularly.
  • Ensures work flow is not interrupted and all positions are covered during vacation and illness.
  • Maintains or shows progress of improvement in A/R days to standard of 55 monthly.
  • Maintains consistently monthly bad-debt achievement.
  • Communicates the need for internal control by establishing policy/procedure necessary to meet the needs of the department and hospital
  • Performs all employee counseling, discipline, and terminations. Treats all employees fairly and equally
  • Assists in the completion of annual employee evaluations and provides constructive feedback to employee on improvement needs
  • Approves monthly office work schedule for employees.
  • Work with staff to resolve internal conflicts in a timely manner. Promotes a team working environment within all departments and throughout the hospital

  • Professional Requirements:
    • Completes annual education requirements.
    • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and JCAHO regulations.
    • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
    • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
    • Attends annual review and performs departmental inservices.
    • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
    • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
    • Attends committee, CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.
    • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
    • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
    • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
    • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: (Experience, Education and Special Certifications)
  • Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree or Certified Public Accountant Preferred
  • Minimum of five years health care administration experience, including three years in Home Care, Hospice, SNF Financial Operations
  • Current multi site financial experience strongly preferred
  • Broad knowledge of home health, SNF, and hospice agency regulations and administration
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, decision-making, presentation, and communications skills
