Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Non-selling manager of cemetery and/or preneed funeral sales with community service and/or family service counselors as direct reports.
  • Responsible for the level and quality of sales production from the field locations and attainment of sales performance goals.
  • Participate in the development of sales team’s goals and budgets.
  • Supports the annual operational sales plans for the sale of cemetery property and merchandise and/or preneed funeral sales in conjunction with corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, ensuring that all contacts/leads, activities and sales results are entered into the system and then properly managed. This includes aftercare, walk-in, call-in, referrals, advertising/marketing campaigns, special events, etc. types of contacts.
  • Responsible for tracking and assessing the success of all marketing/advertising campaigns in CRM.
  • Responsible for the development of high quality professional sales force that fulfills the Company’s mission and provides outstanding customer service.
  • Create and maintain a sales environment of high standards of ethics, quality and service in all business dealings.
  • Ensure that direct reports understand their individual responsibilities, authority, and their ability to vary from Company policy.
  • Supervise, develop, coach and motivate direct reports to ensure that a capable, productive staff exits at all times.
  • Conducts regular sales meetings to review products and services, present sales goals, explain existing or revised procedures to motivate the sales team.
  • Ensure that sales counselors meet the Minimum Performance Levels (MPLs) and develop individual improvements plans as needed, including personalized training (field and classroom), mentoring and coaching.
  • Recommend and implement disciplinary actions including placing sales team members in a “review" status for failure to meet standards.
  • Regularly tour location(s) to evaluate appearance, service quality and overall performance of sales teams.
  • Creates work schedules and performance plans for sales team members (Community Service and/or Family Service Counselors).
  • Provides training and assistance to all sales employees including new hires and low producers.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to ensure a professional, secure and positive work environment. Address issues quickly, thoroughly, and decisively.
  • Implement approved compensation plans, including payroll time sheets (Family Service only) and bonus programs for direct reports.
  • Review and audit direct reports’ state/local licensing to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as the liaison between sales functions and related departments (e.g. contract processing).
  • Model the Company values and objectives at all times.
  • Implement Best in Class culture throughout the region to achieve superior performance.
  • Promote cooperation and teambuilding across the region’s entire staff.
  • Promote continuous improvement process throughout the organization.
  • Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent business or sales experience equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in direct sales management with demonstrated success in meeting sales performance objectives on a consistent basis.
  • History of meeting sales power requirements with highly-qualified sales counselors.
  • History of recruiting, hiring and training industry and/or non-industry sales team members and meeting stated performance goals.
  • Experience in all aspects of the sales process including customer/employee service skills with emphasis on customer and employee positive conflict resolution.
  • Experience in developing action plans and activity tracking systems with successful retention of sales counselors.
  • Extremely conscientious and self-starter.
  • Flexible, able to work in a dynamic environment, challenge oriented and personable.
  • Demonstrated positive leadership and management skills.
  • Must have good judgment, the ability to handle high pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent motivation and training skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and create a team atmosphere.
  • Must have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Knowledge of CRM a plus.
