Engineering Specialist - SAN Storage at Franklin

Job Description

Candidate will take a technical leadership role as part of the CHS IS Enterprise Infrastructure Engineering team to build solution standards and processes for critical reliability and maximum uptime for hospitals. This project specialist is responsible for participating in design discussions and overall solution delivery regarding a broad range of IT infrastructure solutions but with special emphasis on storage. The position demands deep expert knowledge of IBM, EMC, and Cisco platforms and design of large enterprise-wide solutions in addition to an ability to work closely and collaboratively with other engineering and operations peers in the UNIX/Oracle & Windows/SQL/VMware platforms, as well as application analysts and Enterprise Architects. The candidate for this position should be an expert technical writer and solutions modeler for their domain and be able to work both independently and as a team lead. This is a senior position.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will provide detailed Engineering designs for all projects with a storage component. These Engineering designs must include analysis of the applications performance & capacity characteristics, including IOPS, as well as 1-5 year storage growth trends.
  • Compose thorough, in depth technical storage design documents for CHS priority projects. These models must support Infrastructure Engineering by establishing the permitted design of storage in a highly-availability, scalable fashion that employs CHS & vendor best practices for IBM, EMC, and Cisco platforms.
  • Written and oral presentations of projects, business case and technology assessments
  • Consult with business and technology teams when needed
  • Alignment with architectural designs & storage technology roadmaps
  • Provide input to the development of project initiation documents including objectives, scope, approach, and deliverables, when needed.
  • Schedule, conduct and lead meetings to discuss progress of documentation for solution releases, and offer guidance in inter-departmental processes meetings for maintaining consistent work practices within technical publications.
  • Coordinate and facilitate document reviews to ensure technical accuracy of information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree preferred or previous commensurate experience
  • Solid Critical Thinking & System Administration skills
  • Must have SAN Engineering experience and background this includes the design of storage from the ground-up (arrays & fabric)
  • Must have experience analyzing application behavior to assess IOPS and performance and applying appropriate in design
  • Must have significant experience in on more of the following: VMware, Windows, UNIX/Linux, SQL Server, or Oracle
  • 5 or more years experience working in an enterprise storage environment with >1PB of storage, including previous responsibilities, such as LUN provisioning, performance monitoring, and planning for growth
  • Advanced knowledge of performance tuning & storage architecture with one of more of the following platforms: EMC VMAX, EMC VNX, or IBM SVC
  • Advanced knowledge of building and maintaining large core-edge Cisco SAN fabrics with MDS 9500-class directors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for supported platforms
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience in logical architecture (business entities, data flows).
  • Ability to demonstrate expert knowledge with Internet software; Word
  • Processing software; Adobe; Microsoft Office Word, Power Point, Excel, Visio, and SharePoint.
  • Should demonstrate excellent skills in personnel administration, contractor management, direction of others, leadership, and consensus building.
  • Coordinate and facilitate document reviews to ensure technical accuracy of information
  • Experience with storage replication and snapshotting technologies, such as EMC SRDF/A & TimeFinder
  • Experience with storage administration & engineering in large VMware & Windows environments a plus
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus infrastructure a plus
  • Prefer experience with IBM AIX & Linux platforms with environments that leverage N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV)
