DUTIES: The duties of this position include all phases of cleaning and special techniques in the scope of institutional housekeeping such as dust mopping, dusting, wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping/refinishing, buffing, window and wall washing and other related duties in assigned areas, which may include steps, ramps, docks, entrances and stairs. Incumbent must select and prepare for use industrial cleaning equipment such as battery-powered scrubbing machines, polishers, vacuums, shampoo machines, pressure washers and other electrical appliances. Employee is responsible for the proper use, cleaning and storage of this equipment.
The duties of this position also include tacks such as furniture cleaning and arrangement, movement of desks and other heavy furniture, requesting and storing supplies, collection and removal of trash or waste. replenishing dispensers, hanging curtains or draperies, cleaning elevators, restrooms, drinking fountains and performing other related duties as assigned.
Incumbent may be assigned to any designated area throughout the medical center for this accomplishment of housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the assigned areas in an aseptically clean and visibly attractive manner. This may involve an assignment to a specific area or may involve assignment to various tasks on a day - to - day basis.
WORK SCHEDULE: Possible tours include Monday - Friday 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., 6:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m. to Midnight. Incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to topPHYSICAL EFFORT: The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence of specialized experience which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume or OF-612. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C (www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c).
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT : Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for the WG-2 full performance level of this position is: Ability to do the work of a Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision.
