DUTIES:  The duties of this position include all phases of cleaning and special techniques in the scope of institutional housekeeping such as dust mopping, dusting, wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping/refinishing, buffing, window and wall washing and other related duties in assigned areas, which may include steps, ramps, docks, entrances and stairs. Incumbent must select and prepare for use industrial cleaning equipment such as battery-powered scrubbing machines, polishers, vacuums, shampoo machines, pressure washers and other electrical appliances. Employee is responsible for the proper use, cleaning and storage of this equipment.

The duties of this position also include tacks such as furniture cleaning and arrangement, movement of desks and other heavy furniture, requesting and storing supplies, collection and removal of trash or waste. replenishing dispensers, hanging curtains or draperies, cleaning elevators, restrooms, drinking fountains and performing other related duties as assigned.

Incumbent may be assigned to any designated area throughout the medical center for this accomplishment of housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the assigned areas in an aseptically clean and visibly attractive manner. This may involve an assignment to a specific area or may involve assignment to various tasks on a day - to - day basis.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Possible tours include Monday - Friday 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., 6:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.,  3:30 p.m. to Midnight. Incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:  The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds.  Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations.  Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises.  Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.

EXPERIENCE:  A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.  Evidence of specialized experience which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume or OF-612.  Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C (www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c). 

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT :  Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.  Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.  The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions.  The screen-out element for the WG-2 full performance level of this position is: Ability to do the work of a Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision.

Tour of Duty: Based on the needs of the service. 

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) will be responsible for the direct care of the patient. The RN is primarily responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the OR setting. The RN is responsible for coordinating patient care delivery to ensure quality care according to established standards of care/practice, policy, and procedure. The specific patient population to whom direct care is provided includes adults with a wide variety of different conditions during the perioperative period. The practice of the nurse is characterized by leadership in improving patient care. The OR provides the following services:  general surgery, ear, nose, and throat, opthalmic, orthopedic, peripheral vascular, thoracic, cardiac, urologic, plastic, podiatric, transplant, neuro, endoscopic and laproscopic.  The nurse has the technical and operational knowledge and clinical skills to function as a circulating and scrub nurse in all services.  He/she monitors activities occurring within the department when acting in the charge nurse capacity.  The RN must be able to lift 30 lbs or more, twisting and/or bending, standing and/or walking almost constantly during the course of the day to assess patients, provide patient care, administer medications, and direct nonprofessional staff.  The nurse must also be able to direct nonprofessional staff’s lifting, moving, and/or transferring of patients and use equipment to provide patient care which usually involves lifting and/or pushing the equipment. The RN is responsible for the storage, proper cleaning techniques, and use of reusable medical equipment (RME).   • Evaluation of customer returns (to include weekly quality meeting presentation).
  • Supervise 3S/5S conditions/activities.
  • Monitor inventory to meet shipping requirements.

    The incumbent must:
    • Have a high school diploma or GED.
    • Requires a Bachelors Degree in related discipline and zero (0) two (2) years experience in related field
    -or-
    • External Non-Degreed Candidates require a minimum of six (6) years supervisory / leadership experience. New hires into this position must also successfully complete required CKNA certifications within a specified timeframe. -or-
    • Internal Non-Degreed Candidates require one (1) year employment with CKNA and a minimum of two (2) years experience in a leadership position in manufacturing. Note Time spent in a CKNA lead or production specialist position will count toward this two (2) year requirement. Additionally, the internal non-degreed candidates must have successfully completed the required CKNA certification for this position prior to being eligible for consideration.
    • Have experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications.
    • Have strong communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects and programs.
    • Be able to pass all background checks and pre-employment tests, including any required drug test.
    • Be able to maintain the confidentiality of any information s/he encounters.
